Dear Diary,

It seems I seem to be saying a lot of sorry’s these days right?, am sorry anyways ! a lot has happened and am dishing straight away…..

A colleague of mine got wedded last week, Saturday and I also went ahead to invite my friend/roomy Joy (my partner in crime) for company, so I could at least show face to my colleague (in fact sign register lol), but apparently she also had a wedding she wanted me to attend too, so we came to an agreement whereby we would do both weddings by shuffling through the church of my colleagues’ and attending the reception of her colleague, fair enough!.

We had trouble leaving my colleagues church ceremony because it tookj so long and carelessly unknown to me the reception was at the the church venue, so sneaking was made difficult L, but finally we escaped. When we got there (the reception of my friends colleague), due to traffic connecting from Surulere to VGC, the wedding was drawing to a close.

However, as we were saddened by our lateness we heard of an after party being organized by the groom’s friends in the groom’s honor since they didn’t have a Bach. Eve and behold the party was not too far away if folks didn’t want to end the night early.

We headed to the location party and a few minutes into the night as we were walking to the door, I heard someone calling ‘excuse me’, we both turned to see who it was. I turned and it was this tall light-skinned guy. He said hello, we said hi (sarcastically – I for one didn’t like light guys), and he asked if we why we were leaving especially as we just got here... really that means you were keeping tabs on us, I said “Well, I’m here because of my friend Joy, and she just smiled and they exchanged pleasantries.
He then proceeded to tell us that the bride was his first cousin. We all chitchatted for a while, till Joy had to leave us and go mingle with her colleagues and then ‘of course’ (lol) he asked for my number (finally..lol), he said he would keep in touch (as usual). He didn’t strike me as irresponsible or psycho; he was tall, cute, sounded like he had it together (except that he was light), so I said why not and gave him the digits after all am not yet committed to anyone (truth I was lonely still).

About a week later (homeboy took his sweet time annoyingly), he called and I had to act like I couldn’t quite remember him, because I was thinking - imagine this dude wasted so much time before he called me. We started talking and had really good conversation. I liked the fact that he could handle my “mood swings” and would harass me each time in a very slow poison type of way. Our friendship is blossoming likewise my friendship with, Femi (who practically calls like twice a day how sweet), any ways today isn’t really about Femi but the new Guy, you know he would come down to Lagos since he lived in Ibadan and worked as a Lecturer (I know I know, lecturers and female students) but he’s trying too o, he’s visited me twice now(all the way from IB to LAG. Just to hang out with me, and I am getting to know the wonderful person that he is. Like all great stories, nothing good comes easy, even though I didn’t like the fact that he didn’t call the first week of taking my number.
He is now consistent like Femi whew', however we are just friends (he hasn’t asked me out yet); I must confess I like this most about him, he’s funny. Say I am tripping, yeah, what else is new… he is still light skinned sha (I can paint him black)!
I need someone to tell me if am heading in the ‘right’ direction… should I go on hunting or just make my selection from these three?

I just have four months and 2 days left to get me a husband…

Dear Diary.. Thursday, September 13th, 2010

Happy Idel Kareem *smiles* …am feeling so on top of the world right now ..

The day slowly progressed on wednesday, at first I was beginning to get worried if all my prospects wouldn’t call as promised but just when I was getting home after work on the eve of Idel kareem behold my phone rang and guess who … Charles! What? Yes I said Charles, he said he was calling to check on me, check on me ni, check on me ko,pschew!
Trust me I quickly told him I was driving and couldn’t talk and hung up, doh!

On my way home I reminisced on Charles and felt I should have insulted him but anyways from all the advice i received, I was told not to show him my emotions anymore as well as my new ‘candidates’, fair enough. When i got home I saw 2 messages from Femi apologizing for not calling all day and asking how I was and blah blah!! No message from Chidi ‘hmmph’.

The next morning I woke up to the buzz from my phone, it was a message from Femi requesting to know my schedule, I was in no mood to go out but in my situation there was no time to waste, I had less than 5 months to get hooked *sighs*. After having my bath, I decided to wait atleast an hour before replying so as not to look cheap, I sat down at my lonely table and started picking beans that I was going to prepare and eat solo since Joy my roomie had travelled from work the previous day to be with her boyfriend. I suddenly felt stupid and started typing Femi a text , when my phone started to ring... it was Femi my heart started to pound. I braced up and picked with a calm hello and as we talked, I told him I was texting when his call came in, and then he asked if I would like to go out with him to his cousins introduction, I sharply said yes (I got myself where to go, yay lol).

In less than an hour Femi called that he was outside and so i went out to his car in front of my gate to meet him.
"Um, hi..?" I said/asked. He smiled and said.."Hey! You look beautiful on jeans", then got out of the car;  I could feel the eyes of my neighbors staring at us through their windows ... he was finer than Charles so I felt proud lol.
Long story cut short, I had a beautiful time out with Femi and we connected even more wow, can you imagine that on our way home …oops I mean on the way to my house (he was dropping me off), chidi called to say if he could see me, at 7pm, very well mr. handsome another time duh!

"It was as if Femi coded that it was another guy, he went quiet for a while and next he said “I would like to ask a question to a very beautiful girl." he started.”(Okay o,I hope it’s fruitful)......,Atoke i hope its not too soon to ask, do you have a boyfriend?" I looked up at him with a straight face and said a sad ‘No’...

He was taken aback because I thought I saw him withdraw…. I thought he probably had heard from his mum my story…

As he parked in front of my house, he turned off the engine and sat straight to look at me, I couldn’t do same as a matter of fact I was blushing girls..lols. As I braved up to tell him good night he whispered “I really like you Atoke and I wish you could open up to me, cos I want you very much…ol boy, I felt like dying cos my heartbeat knew no bounds.
All my big mouth could say was ‘am not holding anything back, I think you are’… then he said ‘can we be open to one another as a start’? I said okay, but go first, and he laughed and said ask me what’s really on your mind? Mehn that was an open ended question, should I ask about the white girl? Yesss, here was my chance; I stuttered a bit and finally asked …”do you have a girlfriend? He smiled said no and then he asked me “do you like me enough to date me”? OMG! I was tongue tied… I really didn’t know what to say and quickly said 'I will think about it' (not wanting to tie myself to him, I thought it was the best option, so I could have more options and have a little fun…I don’t know oh’).

We finally said our good nights and as he gestured to kiss me I quickly withdrew and he froze… I just stood there eyes down not knowing what to do. Not minding me he cupped my face and asked tenderly ‘ what’s the matter?’, I didn’t know what to say, I stupidly started sobbing and he hugged me (am sure all my neighbors would have died out of shock) …it felt so good in his arms that I didn’t want him to leave me alone* but that’s when my mumu phone decided to ring again and we broke the warm embrace and said our good nights… all because of Chidi’s message.

God I miss him already -------------------------------------------- x-x-
Am sure all my girlfiends will hit the ceiling when they hear this …

Atoke: I am sorry it was short :) compared to the ‘nitty gritty’ of what happened …. I needed to save some juicy part for myself .

Another candidate?!

Dear Diary,
I realized that I didn't really gather much about Femi after all the "gisting" that we did. I was only able to get basic information, I mean like work, family, hangout spots, oh and I remember him saying that he said he was close friends with one of my cousins. I'll have to call my cousin for an interrogation.

Anyway, it was the first week of a new month which meant I had to stock up on groceries. So I get to the supermarket, and am about to get into a parking spot I had seen and this rude driver comes outta nowhere and just breezes in. I was so speechless and so angry!! Being the lady that I am, I didn't make too much of a fuss, I just simply pulled in my car behind his, turned of the engine, got out and strutted towards the shop, knowing fully well that he would have to come and ask me nicely to take out my car considering he was at fault (evil laugh). I noticed the security guard trying to get my attention and pointing behind me, of course I ignored him.

As I neared the the counter I saw the security guard from before point at me like he was directing someone to me, I was already at the cashier when, "excuse me...", I turned and who did I see, Chidi, some guy from school (OMG! he hadn’t changed one bit), I said hi and I think that was when he recognized me cos he smiled and said "I am sorry, are you Atoke Williams?" I thought to myself he remembers my full name, wow!. He made this funny laugh and said, "wow! this is truly a small world. Here I am, trying to harass the offender for blocking my way out, look what I found my former school mate, pretty Atoks". I was dumbfounded, I joined in the laugh and as the cashier called out to me Chidi asked "can I get that for you?" I laughed, gave him a look that said 'you have got to be joking' I quickly gave the woman my debit card before he could act. He laughed at that and said that he wanted to make up for chancing me.
After that he asked me to have a drink with him so we could catch up but I had to refuse. He was charming and all but it was getting late and I was still forming vex, so we exchanged numbers and promised to keep in touch.
Chidi walked me to my car and opened the door for me and even stood there till I got inside my little car hmph!. I barely started my engine when he called out reminding me to stay in touch.

On my way home Femi called and we chatted till I got home and while we were still talking, guess who called? Chidi!! (make una see me see God o, na me be dis? lol). This is just what I need another candidate for the husband project.
The first thing that Chidi said when I called him back was "so were you talking to your boyfriend?" I could only laugh and apologise but he told me he was just kidding. After we had laughed it off he asked how I was doing and if he could see me on Friday. I thought it was a real stroke of bad luck for him because Femi had already asked me out on a date that same day. I told him I had to be somewhere else and asked if we could meet up another time, he said he'd call me another time so we could decide on when and where.

So... here I am with two fine men vying for my attention. LOL!! I must admit I am loving the attention, but I also have to remember that I have a target to meet.

Let the game games begin. LOL!!

Signing out Atoks*
