Namywedding.com: Obiwon we knew we had to do an exclusive feature on you. Your accomplishments have been simply remarkable but the newest one, your wedding is the the buzz in town! How are you?
Obiwon: I am great. Thank you. I am so humbled and honored to have been chosen as your celebrity couple wedding for 2011.
 
Namywedding.com: (smiles) Before we get into it, could you share with our very diverse audience your full name?
Obiwon: Obiora Ifeanyi Nwokolobia-Agu… Popularly known as Obiora Obiwon is a nigerian urban gospel artiste, performer and entertainment consultant.
              
 
Namywedding.com: so tell us about you
Obiwon: I started writing songs and performing at 15. He is also known as the Black Prince {lol}. I tag my music as African RnB or, which is also the name of his independent production outfit. My musical influences include Michael Jackson, R.Kelly, Boyz II Men.
I studied Agric. Extension at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN), after which i worked as a banker in Lagos after three years in a Nigerian Bank (Fidelity Bank PLC) and is a graduate of Agric.Extension from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I quit to fully focus on music in 2006.
 
Namywedding.com: (Let’s go back to Obiwon as a singer) tell us about your band

Obiwon: yes over the years I have been able to build a band to provide relevant African music to best suit different occasions especially love/weddings like Obimo’ and gospel to inspire!
 
Namywedding.com: thanks for mentioning gospel, why the transition in your type of music? From love to Gospel
Obiwon: To be honest, it is really challenging but I am up for it! I decided to go deeper into gospel because it was time and its not like I have never been gospel its just more pronounced, in the sense that people preferred my love songs maybe because they have videos, but truthfully am content in gospel and I intend to stay at it and inspire that does not mean I will not produce love songs, I will record anything that talks of the true agape kind of love .

Namywedding.com: okay now introduce us to the mystery lady of your heart?
Obiwon: Her name is Nkechi Obioma Ezeife. Nkechi recently graduated from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University after studying Banking & Finance and has worked briefly as a marketer with the MTN Service Center. And she is my love and wife to be… lol anything else? lol
           
Namywedding.com: what do we expect from you musically and your wedding day like artistry for the event etc?
Obiwon: Inspirational gospel songs, love songs quality stuff, new colabo’s.
As for my wedding it will be a quiet celebration of love in Lagos and there will be musical performance by my band, Jodie(west African idol) and Zoe (Nigerian idol) alongside other comedians and friends.
 
Namywedding.com:Can you share with us your proposal story?
Obiwon: waoh… chuckles ..lol ok, I was so late at a client's wedding, during the time I was working at a bank, that most of the guests had gone. I basically wanted to ask someone where the groom was, say hi and go home. I saw her from a distance & decided I wouldn't ask anyone else but her. She took me to the groom and it happened that the bride was her sister. She went away but after my exchanges with the groom, I was still curious and asked that he call her back so I could thank her. The groom sensing something else walked away when she came. We exchanged pleasantries and I crammed her phone number, so that no one would see us exchanging digits. 3 days later I told her I wanted to marry her and that I wanted us to get to know each other better as a result. She had me wait four years. I did a formal proposal with an engagement ring in April this year.
