If you really want to make your special day even more special, then you can get yourself started with planning a themed wedding. Themed weddings are really special events that are not just memorable the couple getting married but also to the guests who are a part of any such wedding.
The idea is to set your wedding around a particular idea or concept. Some of such concepts that you could base your wedding on include the beach, a movie, a time or an era, a cartoon, a cinema, etc. For naija based themes, you could do something like a Fela shrine theme, a market theme, etc. To pull off one of such weddings, after your have successfully convinced your family to allow you attempt such a feat; you need to take note of the following things.
Intimacy is Key
Basically numbers make the difference. Unless you very well mouthed cash wise, it is always best to attempt a themed wedding when your guest list is not a long one. You have to make sure that your wedding is very intimate so that you can afford to pull out all the stops and give yourself and your guest a very great experience.
Involve your guests!
When planning a themed wedding, always try and involve your guests. Start with the IVs you are going to send out. You can also take it a step further by having them dress the part. Colour coded dressing for weddings are already common so all you are doing is moving your guests dressing from colour coded to theme inspired!
Let your imagination run wild!
When it comes to wedding themes, you can go as crazy as possible. Giving your wedding a theme is one of the most interesting ways to make your wedding "your wedding!" Take advantage of your love for a particular colour, or the place where you met, or some crazy idea that you both had that one time you both had a chance to talk about weddings before he proposed to you. Basically do not be afraid to dream big. Just know that you are in for a lot of research, planning and also probably a lot of DIYs (do it yourself).
Tone it down
We know we just said that you should let your imagination run wild, but you also need to understand that you stand a huge risk of over doing it. A themed wedding can be achieved with the right decor, costumes, souvenirs (wedding favors), invitations cards, etc. Just make sure that at each point of the preparation and planning you always ask yourself "Is that too much, do i really need to add this or that, if i take out this or that would it affect the theme in anyway?" When you check yourself in this manner, you are less likely to overdo things!
Have fun with it!
Planning a themed wedding is not as easy as it sounds, especially with respect to getting the items needed for the decor, souvenirs, etc. Ensure that you are up for the task both financially and emotionally. If you have the time, involve yourself in the details by taking some aspects of the planning and turning them into DIY projects.
Try and make sure that you always look at the big picture and enjoy yourself during the planning and on the d-day!
