HOW TO CHOOSE BRIDESMAID DRESSES

Maid_variety

Ever seen a wedding where all the bridesmaids were wearing different styles of gowns in the wedding colour (probably also different shades of that colour)?

Would like to get the same look for your wedding, but are not sure how to go about getting the perfect look for each of your bridesmaids’ dresses?

The key to pulling off the look is to remember a saying that goes, “beauty comes in different sizes and shapes”. Hence it is important to ensure that you pick or let your bridesmaids pick gowns which look the most flattering on their figure.

There are different types of gowns for different body shapes. Be sure to be specific about what you want in terms of shades of colours, length, amount of skin that can be shown and all that. Remember it is your wedding and they do have to adhere to what you want and still look great. Here are tips to directing your bridesmaids in the way they should go in selecting the style that best fits their body type:

Tall/thin ladies:

If you have friends with good height and slim looks, then go for a sheath gown. Tall and thin ladies are the only ones who can carry off such a gown with panache and style. The sheath or mermaid gown is very well fitting and tapers narrowly to the floor, featuring a train.

Pear shaped figure

If you have friends that are smaller at the top and fuller at the bottom, then a full ball gown or a dress with a fuller (fluffier) bottom is the ideal choice with an accented waistline. It will minimize the hips and focus more on the smaller upper bodice. Avoid sheath gowns as fuller bottom will look more prominent in such kind of style.

Petite figures

A-line or a Princess A-line with natural waistlines gowns are an ideal options for woman of a short stature as it elongates a silhouette making a petite woman appear taller. Steer clear of full ball gowns and gowns with dropped waistlines as they tend to make them look even shorter.

Broad Shouldered ladies

Ladies who have broad shoulders should to opt for a gown that has spaghetti straps or a scoop neckline. Stay away from oversized sleeves or off the shoulder sleeves with ruffles or accents.

Thick waist figure

The empire gowns with a high waistline are your best bet for this figure type. Empire waistlines are right below the bust line that flow into long slimming skirts. Stay away from natural waistline gowns that emphasize the waist, as these do not give the waist a slimming or slender look.

Hourglass figure

Have friends who are blessed with an hourglass figure? Select an A-line gown with a dropped waist. They not only look stunning but also accentuate the appropriate areas of the body.

Make sure you are specific in stating the length, color shades and other such small deatails so as to avoid any misuderstanding between you and your bridesmaids. Also don't forget to make sure that they have their shawls and scarves ready for when they have to be in the church (for churches that are particular about females' dressing).

Remember that even though it is your day, your bridesmaids have a right to look good and feel comfortable in what they are wearing, so be sure to be considerate in whatever colour, length, design and style that you decide to go with.

Have a great one!
